Program Description
Boys and Girls Club of Rockford and Rockford Barbell are partnering together for its second year of the Youth Self-Regulation Program. The program includes yoga or weightlifting classes in conjunction with social-emotional learning. It targets youth who experience a lack of social-emotional skills and other mental health concerns due to trauma. The program utilizes best practices in trauma treatment by developing therapeutic rapport, providing direct instruction in self-regulation and skill building, and engaging in both individual and group therapy. The therapist and program staff collaborate with community agencies, schools, and family members in order to provide wrap-around services as a part of each individual treatment plan. Program staff also create content to educate family and community members on the best practices for creating and maintaining a trauma-informed environment.
