Project Overview
Transportation decisions can have major impacts on the health outcomes of a community. Effective transportation decisions can get people to work and school, access healthy foods, and be physically active. However, transportation decisions can often harm the health of the community-at-large as well as individuals and families, particularly those living in disadvantaged communities.
To ensure future transportation planning efforts and decisions are made with a health lens, R1 is seeking to conduct a Health and Transportation Study for the Rockford Region. The purpose of this study is to highlight the current connections between transportation and health, document a baseline for health-related indicators, and serve as a reference guide for both health and transportation decisionmakers.
Engagement Efforts
Throughout the study process, R1 is engaging with the public, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to ensure the study was as informed as possible. In Phase 1 of the study, a survey was sent to health care providers throughout the Region. Providers completed the survey, providing R1 with information about how their patients travel to and from the providers. Data from this survey provided a valuable regional context to the needs and opportunities phase of the study.
R1 is also currently developing a survey to receive feedback directly from patients of regional health care providers. The survey will has been placed in the waiting rooms of several health care providers throughout the Region. It can be accessed by scanning a QR code. It also available on this webpage, you can begin the survey by clicking "Take the Survey!" above.
