Project Overview
Public transit enhances communities and the lives of residents by spurring economic development, promoting sustainable lifestyles, and contributing to a higher quality of life. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) defines Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) as a high-quality bus-based transit system that delivers fast and efficient service. Implementation of BRT increases the mobility of people within the region by efficiently connecting individuals to key destinations, facilities, and employment opportunities through more frequent service with fewer stops.
R1 is conducting a BRT Feasibility Study for the Rockford Region, BRT Technical Summary, and a Corridor Analysis of the RMTD fixed-route system.
- The BRT Feasibility Study provides an overview of BRT service, how this transportation option impacts mobility in the Region, and will inform transit elements of the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP).
- The BRT Technical Summary serves as an educational reference document used by elected officials and the public, which is a summary of the BRT Feasibility Study.
- The Corridor Analysis examines the current fixed-route system to identify where BRT is best suited.
